This photo was sent in by Sheldon Shaw, Fairbanks, AK. He uses a Husqvarna 3120 and a Stihl 088 to harvest ice for the World Ice Art Championships.
He says the ice is typically 36 - 40" thick, although sometimes they go as big as 52". Sheldon says he likes the big saw engines because this "wet" application requires powerful saws.
He's uses a jig to make precise cuts, much like an Alaskan Saw Mill would do cutting lumber from a log. Looks like he's using an Stihl 088 in the jig.
