This is Jon Doyle, cutting a big Earpod tree on the island of Maui, Hawaii. He says, "Here are a few photos of a Earpod tree I cut. None of them really showed the scale of what we were doing. This tree was right next to Iao Valley Road, which leads to one of Maui's most popular tourist attractions, the Iao Needle."
Jon says, "The Earpod tree has a toxic sawdust that makes you sick & dizzy, but it's a close relative to the Monkeypod tree which is a highly desired piece of lumber, particularly in slab form.
He goes on, "I'm a second generation line logger turned timbercutter (My old man lives in Leavenworth, Washington) trying to market some of the more exotic hardwoods here."
In the photos, Jon is running a STIHL 880 that he purchased from Madsen's. He says, "I really appreciate your service and every experience shopping at your store."
Here, he is driving a couple wedges so the big tree doesn't fall on the road.
The photo above shows the beautiful grain in this tree. Below is Jon on the right and his friend, Pete Sullivan, running an Alaskan Saw Mill and new STIHL 880 Pete purchased at Madsen's. The big saw is fitted with an 84" bar, which works great for cutting big slabs.
He ends with, "I look forward to dealing with you fine people for years to come. Thanks again, Jon"
Jon we appreciate your business and look forward to dealing with you, too. Thanks for the interesting pictures!
